About this course

This course integrates advanced Christian counselling theory with supervised practical experience in individual and group contexts. Within a Bible-based, Christ-centred, Spirit-led framework, students explore multicultural awareness, creative counselling techniques, and experiential learning. Through practical activities, collaborative learning, and supervision, students develop contextual counselling and group facilitation competencies. A central component involves designing and facilitating a one-day community workshop integrating narrative counselling and logotherapy to explore identity in Christ, meaning, responsibility, and Christian calling. The counselling internship provides opportunities to apply these approaches with individual clients under professional supervision. Throughout the course, students critically reflect on their counselling praxis, cultural sensitivity, ethical responsibilities, and professional development. The course equips students to journey alongside individuals and communities towards Christlikeness, meaningful participation in the body of Christ, and flourishing within the church and wider community. Students must arrange and fund their own external professional supervision.

Outcomes:

  • Critically evaluate the influence of cultural diversity, personal assumptions, and contextual factors on ethical, Bible-based, Christ-centred, Spirit-led Christian counselling practice.

  • Apply creative, experiential, and play-based counselling techniques within culturally diverse individual and group contexts.

  • Design a contextually relevant, theologically grounded community workshop integrating narrative counselling, logotherapy, and experiential learning principles to promote Christlikeness and flourishing within Christian communities.

  • Demonstrate advanced Christian counselling competencies through community workshop facilitation, supervised individual counselling, critical reflection, and professional accountability, with an emphasis on journeying alongside others towards Christlikeness and flourishing.
