Christina completed her BTh Honours at SATS, and a postgraduate degree in Linguistics and Digital Media from Rhodes University (BJourn). Before pursuing her call to theological education, Christina worked in the digital marketing field. With a lifelong passion for education, she has enjoyed volunteering as an ESL teacher since 2009. She lives in Port St. Johns, Eastern Cape with her husband, and serves her local youth ministry by running a free literacy program on weekends. She is currently studying Biblical Hebrew and hopes to start her Master’s degree next. Whether it’s lecturing or administration, she finds it all a joy to serve the Lord with her gifts at the seminary.

Victor has completed his BCom (Informatics) and his BCompt (Accounting Sciences) at UNISA and is currently pursuing his Post Graduate Certificate in Taxation with at the same institution. He is actively involved with his local church as a cell group leader. He is also a board member of Petra Institute an independent Christian faith organization in South Africa that strives towards the effective and comprehensive ministering of the love of Jesus to children in Africa and beyond. He desires one day to obtain the Higher Certificate in Christian Counselling from SATS to serve his local community.
Dr Caswell J. Ntseno

Caswell obtained a BA in Theology from the University of Zululand in 2006. He then entered full-time ministry, pastored and pioneered churches in Gauteng and Kwa Zulu- Natal. He later pursued his postgraduate studies and graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Religious Studies, from the Global School of Theology (Global University) in 2012. He is a Senior Pastor of City of Worship- Group of House Churches and an Associate Pastor at Gilgal East Ministries. Caswell completed his PhD in Theology, with the following research title: Higher Education Policies and Institutional Theological Educational Needs: A Practical Theological Exploration with Specific Reference to Private Theological Institutions in South Africa at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He now serves SATS as a Quality Assurance Manager, Senior Lecturer and as Conspectus Associate Editor. Caswell is married to Zamokuhle, they have three children.
Marilyn Schott

Marilyn started her studies at the Baptist Theological College in Randburg while she was working for the Baptist Union of SA’s youth department. She transferred her studies over to SATS in 2011 just after she started working at SATS as the enrolments officer, and graduated with the BTh 4yr degree in 2015. She has just started studies again with the MTh through SATS. Marilyn is currently the administrator responsible for the MTh and PhD students and Team leader for the Admin team. She is an accredited pastor with the Baptist Union of Southern Africa, and is the deacon responsible for the Global Missions Ministry Team at her local church, Edenvale Baptist Church.

Lonel has years of experience in local church ministries, including prison ministry, but has a special interest in working with the youth. She also comes to us with a wealth of experience in administration, management and operations.

Michelle is an admitted attorney and currently pursuing her BTh at SATS. She was born and raised in Johannesburg. Grace joined SATS in 2000, when we had only five staff members. Completed a short term Certificate in Call Centre Training. She is registering for her HCCL in 2020 and she serves as the undergraduate administrator. She is also a member of the Lonehill Village Church and has been involved in the ministry called Women of Hope for the past 10 years in the Diepsloot community. She is a wife to Philemon, and mother of two daughters.

Dr Timothy Churchill

Dr Churchill started out as an IT programmer, after earning Bachelor degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science. After sensing the call to missions, he earned an MDiv, a ThM, and a PhD in Theology (Biblical Studies / New Testament) with a dissertation entitled Divine Initiative and the Christology of the Damascus Road Encounter. He served four years at Evangelical University of Zambia as Academic Dean, before moving to Cape Town, where he served three years as Academic Dean of Bible college in South Africa. He joined SATS in September 2019 in a dual role, leading the technology team until October 2024 but will still serve as a senior academic. Timothy is married to Kristina, and together they have four adult children and four grandchildren.

Professor Dan Lioy (PhD, North-West University) holds several faculty appointments. He is the Senior Research Academic at South African Theological Seminary (in South Africa). Also, he is a professor of biblical theology at the Institute of Lutheran Theology (in South Dakota). Moreover, he is a dissertation advisor in the Leadership and Global Perspectives DMIN program at Portland Seminary (part of George Fox University in Oregon). Finally, he is a professor in the School of Continuing Theological Studies at North-West University (in South Africa). Professor Lioy is active in local church ministry, being dual rostered with the Evangelical Church Alliance and the North American Lutheran Church. He is widely published, including a number of academic monographs, peer-reviewed journal articles, and church resource products.

After completing his theological studies at the University of Stellenbosch, Johannes served for seven years as a Pastor in a rural community in the Western Cape. During his season there, he completed his DTh (University of Stellenbosch) in Old Testament Studies. He served for several years at two influential ministries, Petra College (focusing on children’s ministry) and Africa School of Missions (focusing on missions), before joining SATS full-time as the Head of the PG School in 2012. He took office as the Head of Academics in 2018. Johannes is married to Annelie; they have four adult children.

After completing basic theological education as a Baptist minister, he entered pastoral ministry as a bi-vocational pastor while at the same time continuing postgraduate theological education at the University of Stellenbosch in the area of Old Testament studies, eventually competing the Doctor of Theology. He has served in associational and national executive capacities and leadership within the Baptist Union of Southern Africa. He spent more than 20 years in theological education in positions of lecturer, registrar and principal. He is currently involved in a Christian ministry that assists in the development of Evangelical theological education institutions in the developing world. He is married and has three children.

Dr Lynell Zogbo
Dr Lynell Zogbo, PhD in linguistics from UCLA, has served for over thirty years in West Africa as a UBS Bible translation consultant. Author of several Translation Handbooks in both English and French and lecturer (formerly at FATEAC and UFC and presently at Jerusalem Center for Bible Translation), her main interests are Old Testament, Hebrew narrative and poetry. Mother of two grown children (Kaligbeu and Wané), she lives in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire with her husband Georges.

Born and raised in Newfoundland, Canada, Sarah Churchill has lived on the African continent since since 2012. She holds a BTh and BTh Honours from the South African Theological Seminary (SATS), where she is now pursuing her PhD (biblical studies) in women and ministry. She also serves as a part-time lecturer at SATS. Sarah’s heart for children is displayed in her involvement at Cool Club (a children’s ministry at her local church), while her heart for teaching is displayed in co-leading a Bible study. Her passion is to see the gospel spread throughout the African continent and the world. After seeing the need for women to bring their own unique perspective and contribution to theological education, she desire to equip men and women for ministry throughout Africa and the world (Matt 28:18). Dr Jesse Fungwa Kipimo is a Doctor of Theology from the University of South Africa (UNISA). His areas of expertise include Missiology in general, Pentecostal, and charismatic studies, Pneumatology, discipleship, African Christianity, marriage, and family. He is the SATS’ Head of Programme Delivery and MDiv Coordinator, a postgraduate supervisor, and a lecturer. He is the current moderator for Francophone African Theologians’ network gathering more than three hundred scholars. Dr Jesse Kipimo is an author of several Christian books and articles an ordained minister of the Gospel under the Pentecostal Assemblies of God and a senior pastor for the Liberating Truth Mission Church International in Lubumbashi, DRC Congo.

Candida Millar is of Dutch-American descent, married to a Scottish man, and is presently living in South Africa having worked and studied in both Australia and the United States. After completing a double-major in Christian Leadership and Psychology, Candida felt the calling to return home to South Africa to complete her MTh with a specialization in narrative pastoral care and counselling. She completed her doctorate in 2022 through SATS focusing on relationships in multicultural church communities. As a pastor, Candida has a passion for preaching, and as a counsellor appreciates both narrative counselling and logotherapy as effective counselling modalities for the African context. She has thus advanced certifications in both models of practice. She is wife to Grant Millar, and mother to three teenagers.

David holds Master’s degrees in both Science and Theology. His MTh research examined the distinct identity and practice of Jewish Jesus-believers in the New Testament, especially in relation to Gentile believers. His interests include biblical studies and the intersection of Judaism and Christianity in history. David lives in Cape Town with his wife and two daughters. He loves to be in the mountains.

Isaac Boaheng, an ordained minister of the Methodist Church Ghana, has completed his doctorate in Theology at the University of the Free State, South Africa (awaiting graduation in December, 2021). Boaheng holds a Master of Theology degree from the South African Theological Seminary, South Africa and a Master of Divinity degree from the Trinity Theological Seminary, Accra, Ghana. He has over forty publications in Systematic Theology, Biblical Studies, Practical Theology, Translation Studies, Pentecostalism and African Christianity. He lives in Ghana with his wife Gloria, and their four children: Christian, Benedict, Julia and Kalix.

Candida Millar is of Dutch-American descent, married to a Scottish man, and is presently living in South Africa having worked and studied in both Australia and the United States. After completing a double-major in Christian Leadership and Psychology, Candida felt the calling to return home to South Africa to complete her MTh with a specialization in narrative pastoral care and counselling. She completed her doctorate in 2022 through SATS focusing on relationships in multicultural church communities. As a pastor, Candida has a passion for preaching, and as a counsellor appreciates both narrative counselling and logotherapy as effective counselling modalities for the African context. Dr Jesse Fungwa Kipimo is a Doctor of Theology from the University of South Africa (UNISA). His areas of expertise include Missiology in general, Pentecostal, and charismatic studies, Pneumatology, discipleship, African Christianity, marriage, and family. He is the SATS’ Head of Programme Delivery and MDiv Coordinator, a postgraduate supervisor, and a lecturer. He is the current moderator for Francophone African Theologians’ network gathering more than three hundred scholars. Dr Jesse Kipimo is an author of several Christian books and articles an ordained minister of the Gospel under the Pentecostal Assemblies of God and a senior pastor for the Liberating Truth Mission Church International in Lubumbashi, DRC Congo.

After completing his theological studies at the University of Stellenbosch, Johannes served for seven years as a Pastor in a rural community in the Western Cape. During his season there, he completed his DTh (University of Stellenbosch) in Old Testament Studies. He served for several years at two influential ministries, Petra College (focusing on children’s ministry) and Africa School of Missions (focusing on missions), before joining SATS full-time as the Head of the PG School in 2012. Marilyn started her studies at the Baptist Theological College in Randburg while she was working for the Baptist Union of SA’s youth department. She transferred her studies over to SATS in 2011 just after she started working at SATS as the enrolments officer, and graduated with the BTh 4yr degree in 2015. She has just started studies again with the MTh through SATS. Marilyn is currently the administrator responsible for the MTh and PhD students and Team leader for the Admin team. In addition to his role with SATS, Bert serves as an equipping and missions pastor in the USA. Bert is married to Surette, a South African, and they have three grown children, all of whom have been involved in ministry.

Bert is a successful pharmacist, having bought or started a chain of 12 retail pharmacies in the course of his career. In 2006 he sold the last of his pharmacies and retired. Bert is known to have salvaged the Middelburg branch of child welfare from being disbanded, to be a viable organisation again. He has widely divergent interests; from playing the piano to wildlife to flying his own plane.

Lize Labuschagne completed her BA(Ed) at the University of Pretoria and completed her MTh in Child Theology at SATS. After serving on the mission field for 13 years, she was severely challenged by re-entering her own culture and country. Studying at SATS was one of the tools God used to bring her through these challenging times. This taught her that academic engagement is a spiritual discipline enriching one’s journey with God. Bev has taught in secular education for about twenty-five years (mainly Biology) and has worked for both Trans World Radio and Radio Pulpit. Her husband, Dr Reuben van Rensburg, was the Principal of SATS (2006–18); their three children actively serve the Lord in ministry roles.

Bert is a successful pharmacist, having bought or started a chain of 12 retail pharmacies in the course of his career. In 2006 he sold the last of his pharmacies and retired. Bert is known to have salvaged the Middelburg branch of child welfare from being disbanded, to be a viable organisation again. He has widely divergent interests; from playing the piano to wildlife to flying his own plane.
Izaak Connoway

Mr. Izaak J. L. Connoway holds an MTh in New Testament (Greek) from the South African Theological Seminary and he is at the advanced stages of PhD research. He lectures in Biblical Studies and is also the Content and Copy Editor of Conspectus, the journal of SATS. Izaak also serves as the Academic Integrity Officer of SATS.
Jose de Carvalho

After serving as the General Manager of Sulzer SA 1989–2007, Jose left the corporate world and dedicated himself to theology, earning his MTh in Biblical Studies. He has served as a lecturer at SATS since 2007, during which time he has also been actively engaged in course development. Jose is married to Isabella; they have an adult daughter, Candice.
Catherine Falconer

Catherine Falconer ([email protected]) completed her Bachelor degree in remote unreached areas of South Sudan, while serving as a full time missionary. In September 2019 she received her Masters in Theology. She is passionate about evangelism, discipleship and missions.
Gurson Fortuin

Lecturer Gurson has earned a BA in Bible and Theology from Global School of Theology and completed his BTh Honours and Masters of Theology in Biblical Studies from SATS. Apart from being a part-time lecturer with SATS he enjoys teaching in different ministry contexts.
Felix Kantondo

Originally from the Congo, Félix has served since 2006 as the Associate Pastor and Sunday School Director of Bellevue Baptist Church. As well as being a course supervisor for SATS, he is responsible for translation of courses into the French language.
Lize Labuschagne
Lecturer and Symposium Coordinator
Lize Labuschagne completed her BA(Ed) at the University of Pretoria and completed her MTh in Child Theology at SATS. After serving on the mission field for 13 years, she was severely challenged by re-entering her own culture and country. Studying at SATS was one of the tools God used to bring her through these challenging times. This taught her that academic engagement is a spiritual discipline enriching one’s journey with God. Some of the things she delights in are seeing God at work, being a teacher and being with children.
Christina Orton
Operations Administrator
Christina completed her BTh Honours at SATS, and a postgraduate degree in Linguistics and Digital Media from Rhodes University (BJourn). Before pursuing her call to theological education, Christina worked in the digital marketing field. With a lifelong passion for education, she has enjoyed volunteering as an ESL teacher since 2009. She lives in Port St. Johns, Eastern Cape with her husband, and serves her local youth ministry by running a free literacy program on weekends. She is currently studying Biblical Hebrew and hopes to start her Master’s degree next. Whether it’s lecturing or administration, she finds it all a joy to serve the Lord with her gifts at the seminary.
Mathieu Pelletier

Apart from his IT skills, Mathieu has a B.A. Biblical Studies and Master’s in both Old Testament and Biblical Languages. From 2006, he worked for the Theological College of Zimbabwe as a lecturer in the Biblical Studies Department and was also their Director of IT Development.

Adrian Tamblyn-Watts

Adrian Tamblyn-Watts currently lives with his wife Lyn in the Lake District of north-west England. They have two grown daughters and two grandsons. Adrian holds the post of Academic Co-ordinator at Charis Communications and is associate minister at Emmanuel Christian Centre in Ulverston. In addition to his SATS qualifications, Adrian holds a PGCertTE from the London School of Theology. He is a student of all things C.S. Lewis and a keen motorcyclist.
Bev van Rensburg

Bev has taught in secular education for about twenty-five years (mainly Biology) and has worked for both Trans World Radio and Radio Pulpit. She has an MTh in Practical Theology, and she has published a number of family-oriented books. Bev’s special joy is in training women and youth (especially the marginalised) and their carers/mentors. Her husband, Dr Reuben van Rensburg, was the Principal of SATS (2006–18); their three children actively serve the Lord in ministry roles.
David Woods

David holds Master’s degrees in both Science and Theology. His MTh research examined the distinct identity and practice of Jewish Jesus-believers in the New Testament, especially in relation to Gentile believers. His interests include biblical studies and the intersection of Judaism and Christianity in history. David lives in Cape Town with his wife and two daughters. He loves to be in the mountains.
Rudolph Boshoff

Rudolph completed his BTh and BTh Hons at SATS and has finished his Masters in Theology with a specific emphasis on Islam at the same institution. He is also actively involved with Cult and Muslim Evangelism (Ad Lucem Ministries) and lectured full-time at a local seminary in Randburg (RBC). He also teaches the Critiquing Islam, Understanding Islam, and Islamic Worldview and Religion Courses (SATS).
Elise Kisungu

Elise Kisungu is a full-time minister. She is married and has two daughters. She earned her Master’s Degree in Missiology from Unisa. She is committed to encouraging the younger generations to value theological education and is passionate about Bible study. She believes that the theological education established on Biblical foundations is crucial for carrying out Christian mission in the pluralistic societies in which we live. Elise is interested in urban ministry and migration, Pauline epistles, Pentecostalism, systematic theology, and early Christianity.

Louie serves as a fulltime pastor of the Queensburgh Evangelical Bible Church in Durban. After completing his BTh Hon with SATS he was invited to join them as a part time lecturer. He currently teaches courses in New Testament and Systematic Theology. He is passionate about missions and church-planting. Louie also serves in many leadership roles both in church and para-church organisations. He comes from a mathematics education background and lectures part-time at UKZN in their PGCE Mathematics program. Louie is also the programme coordinator for the Bachelors in Theology Course.

Akheem Waqar

Akheem Waqar is from Islamic Republic of Pakistan but currently residing in South Africa since 2015. He completed his BTh Honours at SATS and serving as a lecturer at the same Institute. He is also fulltime staff member at Woord en Lewe Kerk, managing the training department. He is also an Ordained Pastor of Apostolic Faith Mission of South Africa. He is actively involved in training pastors in Africa for Muslim Evengelism with the special focus on Bible and Islamic Jurisprudence.

Estelle has completed her BTh as well as her BTh Honours (Cum Laude) in Theology at SATS and is currently pursuing a Masters in Biblical Greek. Her area of special interest is Koine Greek—a love affair which started with a passion for the truth of God’s Word. She has been teaching Greek at SATS since 2016. She is married to Marius; they live in Cape Town.
Idalette Muller

Idalette ([email protected]) is a part-time co-lecturer at SATS, in the Christian Counselling courses, She completed the Higher Certificate in Christian Counseling at SATS in January 2020 with distinction. She earned a degree in music (BMus(Ed), 1992), and honors in Educational Psychology (1993) at TUKS. As a part-time counselor with survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation, she is interested in effectively applying music- and art therapeutic techniques in trauma counseling, She is also a motivational speaker, writer and spokes person for Human Trafficking Awareness. She is married to Andrew and they have three children, and live in Centurion.
