Dr Kevin Smith, the Principal of SATS, will be teaching an 8-part series on the book of Ephesians in Port Elizabeth on 21 and 22 August 2018. According to Dr Smith, “This letter is extremely relevant to our context as it is the biblical book that most extensively and directly addresses the believer’s spiritual warfare with the spirit world.”
Mr Batanayi Manyika represented SATS last week when he attended the SBL (Society of Biblical Literature) International Meeting in Finland, from 30 July to 3 August. This year’s meeting was held jointly with the EABS (European Association of Biblical Studies), at the University of Helsinki.
Blog: Our National Anthem, and the Pentacostalisation of the African Church
In our latest blog post, Dr Modisa Mzondi looks at Enoch Sontonga’s hymn, Nkosi Sikelel’ i’Afrika, and its relationship to the Pentacostalisation of the African Church.
Based on an article by Steven J Tracy, What does “submit in everything” really mean? The nature and scope of marital submission, Dr Kevin Smith answers the question, What Are the Limits of Marital Submission? In a world where husbands are sinful, and domestic abuse is all too real, how should we understand the Bible’s instruction to wives to submit to their husbands?
SATS released three new video series on its Youtube Channel this month. These can be freely accessed at the playlists linked below.
The first series is presented by Dr Manfred Kohl, an ambassador for Overseas Council International. He presents this series of short (15 minute) lessons on the early church and Jesus’s teachings.
The second is a pair of presentations by Dr Barbara Kohl, a scholar on biblical sexuality. In her short (15 minute) presentations, she tackles firstly sins of omission and commission in the church, regarding sexuality, and secondly how to disciple teenagers in their sexuality.
Finally, we feature a series of short responses (3 to 5 minutes each) by Ed Gross, to questions about Christian discipleship and what it means to follow Jesus.
SATS has welcomed several new staff members into our family recently. We are overjoyed, and extend a very warm welcome to Dr Cornelia van Deventer (Academic), Dr Jesse Kipimo (Senior Academic), Dr Modisa Mzondi (Senior Academic) and Mr Timothy Solomon (Developer).
