About this course
The Holy Spirit: A Global Perspective is a subject that sits in the Systematic Theology cluster of courses. Various Christian traditions respond to the person of the Holy Spirit in different ways. Although one might not always agree with other church traditions, it is important to understand them, or maybe even appreciate their distinct emphases. This course will begin by grounding you in a biblical account of the Holy Spirit with a focus on Jesus’s teaching. You will then explore the doctrine of the Holy Spirit in historical theology. At this point, you would have a strong foundation to examine the Holy Spirit and Pentecostalisation from a global perspective. In addition, you will learn about the Holy Spirit’s role in salvation and spiritual gifts. The course will culminate in an application of what you have learnt for your own life and ministry. By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Describe the relationship between Christ and the Holy Spirit in John’s Gospel.
- Describe the doctrine of the Holy Spirit in the prominent creeds of the Christian Church. And create a creed/confessional/catechism of your own.
- Explain the Holy Spirit’s role in salvation.
- Examine and assess the Holy Spirit’s role in miracles and spiritual gifts. And defend/support your own position.
- Investigate and evaluate the influence of Pentecostalisation.
- Reflect on and apply the Holy Spirit’s work to your own life and ministry.
