Expository Preaching

Ministry offers opportunities to preach God’s Word. This course enables you to do this effectively and to be a faithful minister of God’s Word. To understand what exactly is meant by expository preaching, you will learn about the philosophy and theology underlying expository preaching, you will acquire practical skills to construct and preach such sermons, and you will grow personally as a preacher. A contextual hermeneutical approach will be considered as you reflect on making the Bible relevant to your listeners. By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Explain the philosophy underlying expository preaching
• Defend the Biblical and theological foundation of expository preaching
• Describe an African hermeneutical foundation for expository preaching
• Construct and deliver expository sermons
• Develop effective introductions, Illustrations, transitions, and invitations
• Evaluate the quality of different expository sermons
• Demonstrate personal growth as a preacher
