Crisis and Trauma Christian Counselling

The course is designed to equip lay, pastoral and Christian counsellors to gain deeper theological insight regarding the experience and manifestations of trauma in individuals, and to come alongside traumatised people from a structured approach that centres on the Spirit’s work, guiding clients with a clear focus on Jesus Christ throughout the counselling process. The course will equip counsellors to apply the five steps of the 5E Model of Christian Counselling―Evaluating, Externalising, Exploring, Emending, and Empowering―in an innovative, culturally sensitive way as they come alongside traumatised clients on their healing journey toward wholeness and restoration in Christ. By the end of this course you should be able to:

• Describe trauma from a Christian perspective (Evaluating Step in the 5E model)

• Explain the symptoms and manifestations of traumma (Externalising Step in the 5E model)

• Explain the impact of trauma on identity in view of identity in Christ (Exploring Step in the 5E model)

• Present a theologically informed and Holy Spirit-led response to trauma that will help traumatised clients to journey toward recovery through the final two steps of the 5E model (Emending and Empowering)

• Describe first response procedure for crisis while waiting for professional support.
