About this course
This course is designed to equip lay, pastoral, and Christian counsellors to effectively come alongside clients who struggle with various addictions, and to assist them through the process of understanding their addictions, addressing underlying issues, and to facilitate growth toward Christlike empowerment as they take steps toward emotional and spiritual wholeness. The course provides holistic perspectives on addiction, etiology, effects on mental, emotional, spiritual, and relational aspects, while fostering Christlike compassion toward addicts from a bible-based, Christ-centred, and Spirit-led approach.
By the end of this course you should be able to:
- Understand addiction and its effects on neurological, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing;
- Identify and describe the issue of technological addiction and online pornography;
- Gain insights into soul care for addicts toward discovering meaning (Evaluating, Exploring, Externalizing; Emending);
- Apply aspects from relevant intervention models with addicts toward flourishing (Emending) in Christ within the boundaries of counselling training;
- Explore different ways in which addicts can move toward living as their preferred selves (transcendence) in their church communities and contexts.
The following textbook prescribed for this course is used in all the counselling courses and must be purchased.
