Do you have a calling to serve the Lord as a lecturer in a Theological Seminary? Do you have a passion to teach a course in one of the following theological subdisciplines: Biblical Studies, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology or Missiology? The South African Theological Seminary (SATS) is currently recruiting for a contract lecturer in the Bachelor of Theology programme. At SATS, we believe that teaching theology is more than an academic practice, it is a ministry. It is more than transmitting head knowledge, it is about imparting the life of Christ to our students through the power of the Holy Spirit. It is about modelling Christ to those who are being prepared for life and ministry in both the church and the society. We serve as a family of men and women who love the Bible, who follow Christ and who are led by the Spirit.
All our training and lecturing take place online.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lecturing a complement of students according to SATS standards.
- Supporting co-lecturers in theological courses.
- Daily assistance of students.
- Communicating actively and proactively on the course forum to maintain social presence, teaching presence, and ensuring that students are clear about the course requirements.
- Being fully conversent with one’s course material, well-read on the subject area, and contributing to the field through reading, presenting, and writing.
- Conducting live lectures and oral assessments.
- Monitoring the progress of students and intervening to assist at-risk students.
- Assessing assignments, portfolios, and examinations, and encouraging students on their path towards becoming excellent servants of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Involvement in church ministry for a minimum of 3 years.
- Minimum of an accredited master’s degree in theology.
- Experience working in online platforms and with MS Office (Outlook, Word, etc.).
- Experience in theological content creation (non-academic and academic writing and presenting).
- Team player who takes initiative, is friendly, service orientated, has a strong work ethic and willing to go the extra mile.
- Able to work remotely with colleagues in different locations, in a multicultural diverse environment.
- Self-motivated and able to work with little supervision.
- Being a married person with a good testimony from one’s spouse will be an added advantage.
- Firmly grounded in a local church with accountability sctructures and discipleship in place.
