Student Update: 11 January 2021.

Good morning SATS family,

I am speaking to you with a heavy heart, as daily I receive tragic reports about staff and students suffering as a result of Covid-19. Some are stories of people who are sick and fighting for their lives. Others are about the tragic loss of loved ones. The ones I hear less often, but which are no less real, have to do with people enduring extreme pressures as a result of Covid. It might be the pressure of nursing sick loved ones or the pressure of doctors, nurses, counsellors, and pastors caring for the sick and the grieving.

We are living through the most abnormal situation in our lifetime. This cannot be “life as normal.” The rules and policies we have in place at SATS were not designed for these circumstances. We need to have special provisions for those who are infected or deeply affected by the pandemic.

  1. If your ability to sustain your studies and keep up with deadlines is compromised by Covid, please let us know by emailing [email protected]. Please give us a little information about your situation and the courses or assignments that are compromised. We will offer students impacted by Covid either (a) generous extensions on deadlines or (b) opportunities to defer the course until the next time it is offered.
  2. Who qualifies for this? Everyone who needs it. If you are any of these categories:
    1. You are or were infected with Covid.
    2. You are or were nursing loved ones to an extent that you could not keep the deadlines.
    3. As a direct result of Covid, your work pressure intensified beyond all expectations. This could affect medical workers, counsellors, pastors, or industries that experienced a huge increase in pressure.
  3. What must you do? Please tell us a little about what happened and what grace you need. Simply email [email protected]. We shall deal with each request on a case-by-case basis, but with the intent of making your burden manageable.
  4. There will be no invigilated examinations for Term 4. If your course has a closed-book exam, we shall be changing it shortly. Keep an eye on the course announcements for details.
  5. Note: For extension requests not related to Covid, please follow the normal channels. Use the [email protected] email only if your request arises from being infected or affected by Covid.

As a staff team, we are praying daily and earnestly for you, our students. We pray every morning at 7:45. We also have staff infected and affected. Please bear them up in your prayers, and bear with us if your course is impacted by lecturers who are ill or recovering from sickness or loss.

I will leave you with the words of Romans 12:12, “Be joyful in hope, patient in tribulation, and constant in prayer.

Yours in Christ,

Dr. Kevin G.Smith

Principal of SATS.
