Speakers

Mr. Tony Lawrence—SaferKidsZA

 Mr. Tony Lawrence serves as managing director of SaferKidsZA. Tony will speak on safeguarding children against multiple forms of abuse, with special focus on early childhood. He will explain the safeguarding standards, and how to implement them with some practical tips for families, and adults working with children. As former director of children and youth ministries in the Anglican Church in Southern Africa, it is Tony’s passion to ensure that institutions are equipped to implement the highest standards in Child Safeguarding.

Dr. Nativity Petallar – Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary

Nativity A. Petallar, Th.D., is Professor of Christian Education and Program Director of Holistic Child Development at Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary (APNTS). Nativity has a doctorate from Asia Baptist Graduate Theological Seminary and a Masters of Christian Communication from APNTS. She is a Board Member of Shechem Children’s Home and serves as a member of the Lausanne Steering Committee for Children at Risk. Her research pursuits include child spirituality and child protection, and she has published academically both locally and internationally. She is married to Mark, and they have two children.

Ps. Patrick Byekwaso – CRANE Network

Ps. Patrick Byekwaso is the Children in Families and Church Partnerships Program Manager at CRANE Network in Kampala, Uganda. His work at CRANE involves engaging with church leaders, and other stakeholders to prevent family separation, prepare families to receive children, protect children by responding to loss and trauma, and developing child-friendly ministries. Patrick serves as the Senior Pastor of Lugogo Baptist Church in Kampala. He is married to Immaculate, and God has blessed them with two sons.

Mr. Muziwethu Zwane—Rays of Hope

Muziwethu Zwane believes that a life worth living is one dedicated to serving others. He currently serves as Chief Executive Officer at Rays of Hope Alexandra, a non-profit, social impact organization that supports children through a holistic engagement model. Armed with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Henley Business School and a Bachelor of Theology degree from SATS, Muziwethu is passionate about bringing his corporate experience and leadership skills to the benefit of the community he serves. Muziwethu is married to Angela, and is the father of three children.

Ms. Monica Woodhouse—Give a Child a Family

Monica Woodhouse is the mother of 8 girls, of which 3 are biological (they grew in her womb, the 5 others grew in her heart). Monica and her team developed Give a Child a Family Africa Trust (GCF) (https://www.gcf.org.za/), an organization that works in twelve African countries with all aspects of child protection and family care. Presently, Monica is the Executive Director of GCF. She has been instrumental in establishing the South African National Child Rights Coalition with 140 civil society organizations with the aim of advancing a stronger national child rights governance system. 

Ms. Marleen Mortin— Operation Mobilisation

Marleen Mortin was born and raised in the Netherlands but currently lives in South Africa with her husband, Nick. Since her time in South Africa (2012) she has worked both with children and with those who work with children. Currently, she is the Children’s Ministry Director for the global work of Operation Mobilisation (OM). The focus of her and her team is discipling children’s workers to model to children what it means to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. They also want to see children, families, and children’s workers develop a heart for the nations. She currently studies for a Master of Divinity with SATS.
