The Introduction to Community Care and Counselling Course is designed to provide the lay counsellor and caregiver with an integrative understanding of community care and counselling within the context of the church.
The course examines the basic dimensions of the theory and practice of congregational care and community counselling. Exploring what it is that makes a congregation a community where healing can take place and identifying the responsibility of the congregation within the local community.
The course provides pastors and lay counsellors with the theory and tools to plan and develop a lay counselling
ministry in the local church, and/or a community care/counselling program. The goal is to equip/train Christian lay caregivers for a helping ministry in their local community.

  1. Introduce the theory and practice of congregational care and community counselling
  2. Explore what it is that makes a congregation a community where healing can take place
  3. Describe the role of pastors and lay counsellors in community caregiving
  4. Identify the responsibility of the congregation within the local community
  5. Plan the development of a lay-counselling ministry in the local church/community
